Hiking

Rare plants and 500 million years of geologic history – Carinthia’s Natural Arena is one of Europe’s most fascinating hiking landscapes, with everything you need for a good hike: high mountains, gentle alpine meadows, impressive canyons, broad valleys and fabulous plateaus with breathtaking views over the mountain world of the Carnian and Gailtal Alps.

In the Gailtal Alps, you will find over 1,000 km of well-marked hiking trails – many of them cross-border trails to Italy – from 600 to 2,800 metres above sea level. The 26 thematic hiking trails (with the chance to learn about the history of local mills, herbs and more), as well as the many long-distance trails such as the Karnische Höhenweg high-alpine trail, also promise 100% pure hiking pleasure.
For a more comfortable ascent, take the Millennium-Express cable lift or the Gartnerkofel chair lift, both of which are also open in the summer.
